North American Bancard's Marc Gardner Featured in Green Sheet Quarterly's "Who's Who"

TROY, MI -- Marc Gardner, president of North American Bancard (NAB), was named to Green Sheet Quarterly's 2009 Who's Who. The magazine is the leading publication for the credit card processing industry.

Mr. Gardner was selected to this prestigious list for his entrepreneurial spirit and his vision in guiding North American Bancard from start-up to major player. Founded in 1992 by Gardner, the company processed more than $7 billion in transactions last year and now employs more than 300 people at its new corporate headquarters in Troy, Michigan.

"What brings people into this business is the desire to succeed in an entrepreneurial sales environment," Gardner remarked. To succeed, though, he advises that entrepreneurs "stay nimble" and surround themselves with excellent employees. "People make everything work," Gardner notes. He has followed his own advice by leading the industry with investments in new technology and new communication tools. These tools allow NAB's merchant-level salespeople to offer layers of products and services and to access real-time merchant data, thereby ensuring better service.

North American Bancard helps community blood supply

Summer is a time of fun, rest and relaxation. It can also be a time when blood supplies in our community are low. Vacations and school closings mean fewer donations, and highway and recreation accidents mean the demand for emergency blood supplies increases.

Memorial Day unofficially started the summer season. North American Bancard employees made it a point to help build the blood supply in Southeastern Michigan just before the holiday. On Thursday, May 21, employees from the company’s two Troy, Mich., locations volunteered to roll up their sleeves and donate blood. They also invited their neighbors, Kostal & Valeo, to participate in the drive. A total of 26 volunteers – including eight new donors – attempted to donate blood. A total of 23 units of blood were collected.

Every day, regardless of the season, hospital patients need blood products like red cells, platelets and plasma for ongoing and emergency medical care. The Red Cross considers a three-day supply of blood safe and adequate for meeting the needs of hospital patients, with five to seven days optimal for emergency preparedness.

You may be eligible to contribute to our community’s blood supply if you are at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good general health,. To schedule an appointment to donate please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit givelife.org for more information. All donors need to present positive identification.

About the American Red Cross
The Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region serves five counties, and needs to collect about 900 units of blood a day to meet patient need in 43 hospitals. In addition to providing blood to our community, the American Red Cross also provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills, serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists victims of international disasters or conflicts.

North American Bancard Announces Results

TROY, MI -- North American Bancard Inc. (NAB) today announced it has reached a significant milestone despite the national economic contraction affecting so much of the business community. As a "Top 35" bank card acquirer and payment solutions provider to Visa and MasterCard merchants, sales partners and financial institutions, NAB has surpassed the 80,000 count in total merchants. This milestone is of particular note because it came as a result of success across each of its business units and all business development channels.

"Payment volume reduction and recession have been the talk -- but we refuse to participate," said Marc Gardner, founder and CEO of North American Bancard. "With fewer companies hiring and more individuals instead opting to start their own businesses, we've put ourselves in the best position to help." Mr. Gardner added, "Fast-track deployments, an online portal for sales partners, a deeper menu of more robust payment options and solutions... whatever it takes, we're getting our clients and agents up and running quickly and on their way to independent business success."

In addition to its record-setting pace of new account acquisition throughout 2008, the company also:
  • Generated more than $6 billion in Visa/MasterCard/Discover transaction volume.
  • Purchased a 105,000-square-foot office building in Troy, Michigan, to serve as its new world headquarters.
  • Obtained a Michigan Economic Growth Authority state tax credit valued at $21.5 million.
  • Added more than 500 new sales partners.
  • Grew its Capital for Merchants division revenue to $37 million.
  • Established itself as a Foundation Member of Automation Alley -- Michigan's largest technology business association.
  • Joined with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and twenty nine of the world's most prominent financial institutions in becoming a founding member of The Financial Coalition Against Child Pornography (FCACP) -- a trade group that seeks to eliminate commercial child pornography by taking action on the payment systems used to fund these illegal operations.
  • Was honored when its founder and CEO received Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year award.
  • Launched its Alliance & Specialty Markets Group, a new company division focused solely on serving the needs of those requiring a merchant services segment specialist.

North American Bancard Launches Alliance Division

Business Unit to Focus on Channel Partner & Developing Market Card Acceptors

TROY, MI -- North American Bancard (NAB), a "Top 35" bank card acquirer (Source: Nilson Report, March 2008) today announced the creation of a new company division dedicated to serving the electronic payments processing needs of organizations and downstream clients requiring a merchant services segment specialist. The company's Alliance Division will develop and manage channel relationships with value-added resellers, software developers, ASPs, financial institutions, specialty merchants, and others desiring integrated payment solutions paired with meaningful and ongoing merchant account management services.

"Our Alliance Division has been formed in response to the growing presence of POS, order-entry, billing and enterprise management solutions fitted with payment applications," said Marc Gardner, Founder & CEO of North American Bancard. "Integrated solutions are here to enhance productivity and profits -- but bringing it all home requires a tuned-in and responsive payments partner. We're moving to fill the 'issues-ownership' gap so often the by-product of third-party technology intermediations, a deficiency not addressed by the majority of competitors in our service space."

Leading the new division is David L. Tepoorten, a payments industry veteran with 24 years' experience in merchant portfolio, ISO and Acquirer bank management. "North American Bancard has the ideal engine in place to rescue under-serviced merchants in a layered technology marketplace. The payments landscape is populated with many moving parts. Our team is fully conversant in the features and functionality of NAB's multi-platform payments product suite, and adept at managing the various relationship components intrinsic to electronic payments processing."

NAB's Alliance Division will also provide sales channel support via integration and/or processor certification assistance to its partners, working with them to market their payments-enabled applications to targeted clients. "We're in the business of helping our customers outperform their competition," said Tepoorten. "By extension, we show our customers and partners how one can effectively utilize payment options and delivery mechanisms to grow revenues, achieve automation gains, reduce operating expenses and achieve compliance with the rules governing bank card acceptance -- the primary driver behind every merchant's bank card acceptance costs."

My hope is that this electronic publication will ensure that every member of the North American Bancard family feels connected and well informed. I want everyone to know what we are working on, what is around the corner and how it will impact the entire company.

Despite our progress, we are not resting on our laurels and are constantly making improvements to processes, procedures, technology and service. Yes, we are happy with what we have accomplished so far but we are nowhere near the finish line. This newsletter will communicate both short term and near term objectives and how these enhancements will benefit all our sales partners.

“In The News” will highlight the latest developments at North American Bancard as well as the industry in general. “Tech Talk” will be hosted by our resident IT guru, Gordon Rimac, and will focus each month on a particular product or service that North American Bancard is introducing or already has in place that will make your selling experience that much more profitable. “Selling Smart” by Rita Feldman, National ISO Recruiter, is all about winning ways to increase your sales and boost your selling I.Q. And to provide an added tool for success, we’re encouraging dialogue with the “Feet On The Street Forum.” This column is designed exclusively with our hard-working sales partners in mind. Here’s an easy way to get your questions answered and your opinions heard as well as a vehicle to share success stories and inspire fellow North American Bancard team members.

Also, check out four columns written by department leaders to gain valuable company insight. In this month’s issue, “From The Terminal Desk” by Usman Ibrahim, Manager of Technical Services, keeps you up to date on the newest processing technology and provides you with a useful tip of the month. “Risky Business” by Randy Lobban, Director of Risk Management, outlines a few ways in which you can spot and prevent processing fraud. “Customer Connect” by Kim Tippin, Director of Customer Contact, lets you know how to make sure that our customers are always comfortable, secure and satisfied. Rest assured that everything we are doing at North American Bancard, whether from a technological standpoint or from a customer service standpoint, is all for the benefit of our customers – and our customers are our sales partners as well as our merchants. It is imperative that all our agents realize how much they are appreciated and the reason we continue to devote considerable resources to improve our systems is so we can continue to earn their business. Unlike many of our competitors, our relationship with our sales partners is non-exclusive. We know that if we don’t impress you, we open the door for someone else to. At North American Bancard, we are dedicated to achieving advancements across the board not only to enhance our sales partners’ tool sets and offerings but also to express our deep gratitude for their ongoing support.
